Kirsty Aitkin-Hughes

Dip Couns MBACP

Hello, my name is Kirsty. I gained interest in the perinatal and postnatal period when I became pregnant in early 2021. The glow people talk about during pregnancy did not arrive and with various pregnancy related ailments, I felt like the only person in the world who couldn’t wait for pregnancy to be over right from the start (and not just to meet my baby).

In various parenting groups, I have met a number of birthing people & their partners who have experienced a loss of control regarding their birth, intrusive thoughts, fighting for their needs, the feelings of vulnerability and so on. I am passionate about lifting that burden of carrying these things around with them and helping them toward a more peaceful path.

Becoming a parent can be difficult and a massive change to life as we know it. It is often seen as just “something we have to get on with” and “just another part of life”. I have seen first-hand the highs and lows of pregnancy, birth and parenthood and believe that it is not something to be done alone. Sometimes the pressure of feeling something other than what society tells us we should be feeling can be all too much.

My consultations are all over video call or phone. I can also offer email support for those who prefer it.

If you would like to know more or discuss how I can support you, please get in touch.
