Dr Claire Arnold-Baker

Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist, DCPsych., M.A., BSc (Hons)

I am an existential therapist with 15 years’ experience of working with a broad range of mental health problems. I specialise in working with mothers, having completed my doctoral research into the transition to motherhood for first-time mothers.

Motherhood is a life-changing event, which can leave women feeling out of their depth, unprepared, exhausted, emotional – both depressed and anxious – and at times traumatised. Mothers can feel a range of emotions and each mother responds to her birth, baby, and thoughts about being a mother differently. I offer a safe, confidential space to support mothers as they talk through and reflect upon their experiences and make sense of themselves as mothers. In particular, I have successfully worked with the following issues:

  • Ante/Postnatal depression

  • Maternal anxiety and worry

  • Birth Trauma and PTSD

  • Motherhood identity

  • Relationship difficulties

I am passionate about offering mothers the support, space and time that is needed, and often neglected, to come to terms with such a life-changing event. I work from consulting rooms in central Reading, where you can bring your baby with you.  Further details can be found on my website. I am registered with the BPS, HCPC and UKCP.
