The Birth Trauma Association welcomes a new celebrity ambassador

We’re delighted to announce, at the start of Birth Trauma Awareness Week, that TV presenter Anna Williamson is joining us as our celebrity ambassador.

Many of you will already know Anna, who presents E4’s Celebs Go Dating, writes an advice column for Closer and co-hosts the LuAnna podcast. Anna has spoken publicly about her traumatic birth experience, and also wrote about it in her book Breaking Mum and Dad. She already has a close association with the Birth Trauma Association, and this year presented our three training videos on birth trauma

Welcoming Anna to her new role, our CEO Kim Thomas said: “We are thrilled that Anna Williamson is joining us as a celebrity ambassador. Anna has already been a wonderful friend to the charity, and having experienced traumatic birth herself understands the devastating psychological impact it can have on so many women. She is also a fantastic role model and shows how it is possible to come through the darkest of times and emerge stronger. We hope this is the beginning of a long and rewarding relationship.”

Anna said: “I am so pleased to take on this role as celebrity ambassador for the Birth Trauma Association. The charity means a lot to me, and I admire the important work it does supporting parents who have been through traumatic birth, many of whom have found it impossible to access support elsewhere. My own experience of traumatic birth means that I understand just how difficult it is for new mothers to deal with trauma symptoms when they are already coping with the demands of a new baby.”

Our Awareness Week theme this year is Healing. We hope you’ll join Anna in posting pictures of something that is helping you to heal from birth trauma – it could be a pet, a friend, a favourite bit of the countryside, anything you like – using the hashtags #HelpingMeHeal and #BTAW2023.
